SYNTHETICALLY GENERATED BIOPHILIA

Biophilia is a philosophy that suggests that there is an instinctive bond between human and non human beings, though there are misconceptions in the westernised perspective and treatment of the natural world. Questioning consumerist driven lifestyles and our relationship with nature, highlights that our ever-growing dependency for artificial products is leading to the inevitable loss of all things natural.
Technology is advancing at a rate where everything, in time to come, will become automated. Therefore ‘nature’ could become the last remaining muse for further manipulation. Leading to a world where the natural could only exist and be reproduced synthetically.
'Synthetically Generated Biophilia' was created as an installation in which to be activated, a person is required to enter the booth - like a meerkat at a zoo - look up through the dome in order to view the intricate and surreal landscape. To allow the viewer privacy when experiencing the installation a blackout curtain was installed, to be drawn across - to allow the viewer an escape from the outside world.
